I used to check what Cannon' played or Trane ... Finally I decided I had to find my own setup. Your own personal sound will not change playing another horn or mpc. Bird always sounded like Bird and he played a lot of different horns and mpc'es! Of course I am not Bird even if I wanted to! In my experience you FEEL the difference more then you hear it. Beleve me, the audience can not tell the difference between you playing a M6 or whistling on a beer can!
The feeling playing an instrument is of the od most importance. That's why we all keep looking for the ultimate horns, mpc'es and reeds. In my sursh I recently came a across Morgan Fry and System 54'. For me they do the trick. I am not saying these products will make you play fantastic instantly -you probably play great already- but chances are you will like them as I do. Feel free to check them out!

Morgan Fry
I play a custom mpc of his on my alto saxophone. The mpc is extremely powerful and flexible, loud if needed but not aggressive. It plays bottom to top -3 octaves- with ease. The sound is really hot and 'beefy'. Articulation is fast, notes pop out very clear and pronounced. I never sounded more 'alto' on the alto before. I guess I could play Bebop to Funk to Pop on it. Best mpc I ever had and believe me, I have tried a few!
I also have a 'borrowed' floridated link by Morgan for the Tenor and a re-worked Meyer for the alto. Best Link and Meyer I ever had in my case!

System 54'
Half a year ago I purchased a System 54' tenor and alto in my local sax shop. They both are the 'Superior Power Bell-R pure brass' model. I still enjoy and play both horns every day. I sold my Tenor MVI. The System 54 alto is a good mix between my M6 and Buescher Aristocrat. A rounder tone like my Buescher, yet more powerful, like a M6. The 54' sounds very 'hot' and very altoisch. My M6 and Aristocrat are in there case for about 6 months now!
